A TRIBUTE

The Mall West End Manager Retired

Richard A. Dent, who for nearly 40 years managed Atlanta’s The Mall West End, retired in January of 2011.

Dent was one of the few minorities in retail when he became manager of the 152,000-square-foot urban Mall West End in 1972. The mall, one of the first enclosed urban malls in the country, has remained 98 percent leased, even during the recession.

The mall was also one of the first malls to sponsor voter registration drives on site, for which Dent won several NAACP awards. The Mall regularly sponsors various health fairs and has done so over the years.

Dent, a member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta and an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta. He helped form the West End Neighborhood Development (WEND).
